Greetings from the staff of Cathedral Design!
For the
past 35 years, Cathedral Design / Cathedral Building and Design,
has sought to find the most
effective way to serve the local church so that God's people
receive the highest quality building for the lowest possible
cost. We believe that we are responsible before the Lord and
the local church in the area of financial stewardship and we
have committed ourselves to make every effort to keep costs
under control. The heart of the Cathedral staff and consultants
is especially burdened that construction costs have risen so
high in the past few years that the Lord’s work is being greatly
hindered, especially for new and developing congregations.
Several years ago, a number of our projects were completed in
the Washington DC and Denver areas for costs below $50.00 per
square foot! This is no longer possible to do in today’s
robust building market but we are still seeing projects built
for $70 to $80 p.s.f. in markets where comparable projects costs
are well over $100 to $120 p.s.f. The construction costs for a
project I finished last year in north Denver came in at less
than $75 p.s.f. The link to
"How To Build For Less" will
help explain how we can keep costs down in these days of
run-away costs.
We
have discovered that cost efficiency centers around careful
church design and planning. Our process begins with a MASTER
PLAN
which becomes the basis for researching all related costs and
for helping the church conduct a detailed feasibility study.
Most evangelical groups experience some budget restrictions to
overcome and a well thought-out Master Plan is the key to
preventing financial stress upon the congregation and leaders.
Phasing the project is often a key to building within a
necessary budget. The Master Plan needs to reflect immediate
goals but also a fully developed plan for future development of
the entire church design.
Upon
completion of our multi-phased Master Plan, we are able to
assist the church in developing a Projected Cost Analysis BEFORE
any further money is spent on engineered plans. This is vital
to cost control. Our message to the church is very important -
"Count the cost not only before you build but before you spend
the Lord's money on final church design documents and engineered
construction plans!" Many churches make the tragic mistake of
hiring an architect to finish plans before they have any idea
how much the total project will actually cost. The Lord has
enabled us to develop a staff of professional planners and
engineers who are committed to helping eliminate this
frustrating problem for you.
Within the site you will find a number of photographs of some of
our past church designs and construction projects. I realize
that your specific design requirements may be totally different
than what the pictures represent, but I wanted you to have an
idea of the type of work we have done in recent years as we
worked in the $70 to $80 p.s.f. budget area. We have also
posted our recommended
"STEP BY STEP GUIDELINE"
which we have developed for your information.
Welcome to our site!
Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.
We may want to discuss a visit to your property to evaluate your
upcoming project.
